Key Characteristics

• Color: Rich, saturated green, often with a subtle bluish undertone. The most famous mining regions are Muzo (deep, warm greens) and Chivor (bluish-greens).
• Inclusions: Because they are Type III gemstones, flawless stones are incredibly rare. The garden-like internal inclusions are widely expected and accepted as part of their natural identity. 
• Rarity: Colombia is the only place globally that produces Trapiche emeralds, which feature a unique, natural six-ray star pattern. 

Purchasing & Certification

• Treatments: Most emeralds undergo minor oiling or resin treatments to fill surface-reaching fractures and improve clarity. Stones with no or only minor oiling command the highest premiums. 
• Verification: Always request a gemological report (such as from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or Gübelin Gem Lab) to certify the origin, exact carat weight, and disclosure of any treatments
