The Idaho star garnet is a rare, deep red to purple gemstone that exhibits a striking "star" effect (asterism) when exposed to light. Found in only two places on earth (Idaho and India), it is an official symbol of the "Gem State" and represents guidance, protection, and fresh starts. 

The Science Behind the "Star"

• Asterism: The star effect is caused by tiny, needle-like inclusions of titanium (rutile) trapped inside the crystal. When polished into a smooth, dome shape (cabochon) and hit by direct light, these fibers reflect a glowing 4- or 6-rayed star.
• Rarity: Six-rayed stars are exceptionally rare and highly sought after by collectors.

Designated as Idaho's state gemstone in 1967, this stone is deeply tied to the region's rugged geography. It is one of the few places in the world where the public is allowed to dig for and sift gravels to find their own gems
