Spinel From Burma .32 CT

Burma spinel is a rare and highly coveted gemstone mined primarily in the legendary Mogok region of Myanmar (Burma). It is prized for its exceptional brilliance, high clarity, and vivid, electric colors. Because of its historical abundance and striking hues, it was often mistaken for ruby.

Key Characteristics
  • Color Palette: While it comes in many shades (pink, purple, orange, blue, and gray), the most valuable is the highly sought-after, deep, vivid red known as "Jedi Spinel".
  • Durability: It scores an 8 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it highly durable and suitable for everyday jewelry like rings.
  • Untreated: Unlike many rubies that undergo heat treatment to improve their clarity and color, most Burma spinels are 100% natural.
Notable History
Historically, many of the world's most famous "rubies" in royal collections are actually red spinels. A notable example is the 14th-century Black Prince’s Ruby, which is the centerpiece of the British Imperial State Crown and is actually a natural red spinel.
