Buffalo Turquoise From Nevada 12.23 CT

Buffalo turquoise
(also called "White Buffalo") is a rare, highly prized gemstone mined exclusively at a single deposit in Tonopah, Nevada. Despite its name, it is not actually turquoise; it is primarily composed of calcite and alumite. It is distinguished by its snow-white color and striking, contrasting black or brown webbed matrix.

Key Characteristics
  • Mineral: Magnesite, alumite, and calcite.
  • Appearance: Strikingly pure white with intricate black or brown web-like patterns.
  • Rarity: Exceedingly rare because it is sourced from a single mine.
  • Hardness: 5.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, which allows it to take a high polish just like turquoise.
  • History: Discovered in 1993 by the Otteson family near Battle Mountain and Tonopah, Nevada. It is named in honor of the rare and sacred Native American white buffalo.
