Tigers Eye Quartz From North Cape Africa 2.25 CT Round Cab 7.9dia x 4.6 mm Grade AAA.

Tiger’s Eye is a striking chatoyant gemstone renowned for its rich golden-to-red-brown bands and silky luster. Belonging to the quartz family, it is a metamorphic rock that gains its signature shimmering "cat's eye" effect from microscopic intergrown mineral fibers.

How it Forms

Tiger’s Eye is formed when silica-rich quartz encapsulates needle-like fibers (traditionally known as crocidolite or blue asbestos). As iron within these fibers oxidizes over time, the rock takes on its characteristic warm, golden, and rusty hues.

Key Properties
  • Color: Predominantly golden-brown. When unoxidized, it is known as Blue Tiger's Eye (or Hawk's Eye). Red Tiger's Eye (Bullseye) is a deeper, red-toned variation often achieved through gentle heat treatment.
  • Hardness: Measures at 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it highly durable for everyday use.
  • Luster: Silky to vitreous.
  • Crystal System: Trigonal.
Uses and Availability
Because of its durability and captivating light reflection, Tiger’s Eye is heavily utilized in lapidary, ornamental design, and jewelry. You can frequently find it cut into beads, cabochons, and polished palm stones. While major deposits are historically located in South Africa and Australia, the stone is globally available.

Metaphysical and Spiritual Beliefs

In the world of crystal healing and holistic practices, Tiger's Eye is commonly associated with grounding, courage, and mental clarity. Many believe it brings the balancing energies of the Sun and Earth together, serving as a powerful stone for spiritual stability and clearing blocked vision.
