Key Characteristics
- Origin: Bo Kheo mines in the Ratanakiri region of northeastern Cambodia.
- Color: The stones initially emerge from the ground in dull or earthy tones (like brown, orange, or yellow) and are transformed into a bright, "Cambodian blue" through careful heat treatment.
- Brilliance: Zircon features a remarkably high refractive index and double refraction (birefringence), which gives it a fiery sparkle that rivals much more expensive gems.
- Hardness: Measures 6.5 - 7.5 on the Mohs scale, making it best suited for earrings, pendants, or carefully worn rings.
