Bumblebee Jasper From Indonesia 10.90 CT

Bumblebee Jasper is a vibrant, banded stone from Indonesia featuring striking stripes of yellow, orange, and black. Despite its trade name, it is not actually a jasper, but rather a fibrous calcite formed by volcanic matter, sulfur, and arsenic.

Quick Facts
  • Location: Mined exclusively around Mount Papandayan and Mount Ciremai in West Java, Indonesia.
  • Composition: Primarily calcite mixed with volcanic ash, sulfur (yellow), realgar (orange), and pyrite (black).
  • Hardness: Very soft, measuring about 4 on the Mohs hardness scale.
  • Safety: Because it contains arsenic sulfide and sulfur, raw and unpolished pieces should be handled with care. Wash hands after handling, and avoid wearing it in a way that allows prolonged skin contact (unless it is thoroughly polished/sealed).
Care Instructions
Due to its soft, calcite nature, Bumblebee Jasper is easily scratched and dissolved by acids.
  • Never submerge it in water or use harsh chemical cleaners.
  • Avoid steam, ultrasonic cleaners, and direct sunlight, which can fade the stone's colors.
  • To clean, wipe it gently with a dry or slightly damp, soft microfiber cloth.
