Key Characteristics
  • Composition: Synthetic. While some variations use reconstituted quartz, the majority of commercially available cherry quartz is actually colored glass.
  • Appearance: Features brilliant swirls of bright red, magenta, and pink. Because it is glass, you can often see tiny air bubbles under close inspection, unlike natural quartz.
  • Hardness: If made from glass, it has a lower Mohs hardness of about 5.5, making it softer than natural quartz, which rates at 7.
