Peridot From Sapat Gali Mine KPK Province Pakistan
Peridot from the Sapat Gali mine in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province of Pakistan is world-renowned for its intense, vibrant lime-green color, exceptional clarity, and sharp, well-formed crystal structures. It is widely considered one of the finest sources for peridot mineral specimens and gem-quality material on the planet.
Key Characteristics & Geology
- Location: The deposit is situated in the Sapat Gali (or Sapat Nala) region of the Naran, Kaghan Valley, Mansehra District.
- Geological Origin: The peridot forms in the Sapat mafic-ultramafic complex of the Kohistan arc.
- Color & Luster: It typically features a rich, saturated yellowish-green to bright lime-green. Crystals frequently display excellent luster and transparency.
- Habit: Sapat Gali produces some of the world's best terminated peridot crystals (often up to a few centimeters).
Rarity and Market
Because of the steep, high-altitude terrain in the Himalayas, extraction is primarily done by artisanal miners. While some rough material is faceted into stunning, bright gemstones, a large portion of the material is highly prized by mineral collectors globally as raw, natural crystal specimens.
