Micro Vanadinite With Barite From Mibladen Dra-Tafilalet Region Morocco

Micro vanadinite with barite from the Mibladen Mining District (Drâa-Tafilalet region, Morocco) is among the world's most highly prized mineral specimens. These specimens are famous for their aesthetic contrast between fiery, mirror-lustrous, hexagonal vanadinite crystals and stark, bladed white barite.

Key Geological & Aesthetic Features

  • Color: Crystals range from deep, fiery red and bright orange to amber and chocolate brown.
  • Habit: Vanadinite forms distinct hexagonal "squat barrels", often featuring fine striations on the prism faces.
  • Paragenesis: Tiny micro-crystals sit perched atop or nestled within radiating, lamellar, or bladed white barite formations.
  • Associated Minerals: In addition to barite, these assemblages often feature tiny clear calcite highlights or a dusting of goethite.

Locality Information

Located in the Upper Moulouya Basin between the Middle and High Atlas Mountains, Mibladen is a Mississippi Valley-Type (MVT) deposit. Lead-bearing fluids deposited ore within Jurassic dolomitized limestones. Mibladen holds the title as the most prolific and important vanadinite locality in the world.

Exploring & Collecting

Because they combine color contrast, crystal sharpness, and aesthetic appeal, these specimens are eagerly sought after by both novice and advanced mineral collectors.
