Spinel From Mandalay Region Myanmar

Mandalay Region, Myanmar—specifically the world-famous Mogok Valley—produces some of the finest spinels globally. Renowned for their sharp, perfect octahedral crystal forms and vibrant neon hues, these specimens—including the famous deep-red "ruby spinels" and vivid pink "Jedi spinels"—are highly prized by mineral collectors.

These spinels form inside metamorphosed white marble stone, often preserving unique geological histories and inclusions that intrigue gemologists. Primary localities in the region include the renowned Pein-pyit and Sa Kyin zones.

  • Color Range: Extends from intense ruby-red to vibrant pink, purple, and cobalt blue.
  • Crystal Habits: Frequently found as sharply defined octahedrons, sometimes with complex twinning.
  • Hardness: Rates an 8 on the Mohs scale, making it highly durable for fine jewelry.
  • Common Inclusions: Often includes tiny crystals of clinohumite, phlogopite, and pargasite.
