Larimar From DR. 3.78 CT
Larimar is a rare, volcanic blue variety of the silicate mineral pectolite. It is found exclusively in a single mountainous square kilometer at the Los Chupaderos mine in the Barahona province of the Dominican Republic.
Because it is mined manually from deep, hazardous underground shafts, high-quality material is scarce and increasingly valuable
Color, Grading & Pricing
The value of Larimar is primarily determined by color, pattern, and clarity.
- Deep "Volcano" Blue: Saturated, intense ocean-blues. These premium stones are the most sought-after and expensive.
- Sky Blue: Medium, serene blue tones. These are highly popular and offer great balance for jewelry buyers.
- Pale Blue & Greenish Tones: Lighter hues or those mixed with green or chalky white/grey. These are the most abundant and affordable, but less prized by collectors.
Popular Jewelry Styles
Because of its distinct Caribbean aesthetic, it is widely used in artisan, ocean-inspired designs.
- Sterling Silver Settings: The most common metal used, as the cool silver complements the blue tones.
- Cabochons: Polished, smooth, and rounded stones—rather than faceted gems—that perfectly showcase the stone's natural swirling patterns.
