Pink Tanzanite From Northern Tanzania 3.22 CT

Pink tanzanite (a rare color variety of the mineral zoisite) is considered one of the rarest gemstones in the world, often occurring in just 1 out of every 25,000 tanzanite finds. Unlike common blue tanzanite, which is heat-treated, natural pink tanzanite is unheated and extremely sought after by collectors.

Key Facts About Pink Tanzanite

    • What it is: While popularly called "pink tanzanite" in the gem trade, gemological authorities like the GIA technically classify all non-blue color varieties as "fancy zoisite."

  • Rarity: Pure pink stones are exceptionally rare. Most natural fancy zoisite specimens appear in faint salmon, champagne, or orange-pink hues.
  • Pricing & Value: Because of their extreme rarity, high-quality, unheated pure pink tanzanites are among the most expensive tanzanites globally, often fetching five digits per carat for clean, faceted stones.
  • Durability: Like traditional tanzanite, pink zoisite registers a 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. Because of this softness and its perfect cleavage (which means it can split from a hard impact), it is usually reserved for earrings or necklaces rather than everyday rings.
  • Where to Find: Because they are scarcely mined, they are almost never found in mainstream jewelry stores. Collectors source them through specialty dealers, crystal specimen suppliers, or custom high-end jewelers.
