Smokey Quartz From Brazil 1.45 CT

Smoky quartz is a naturally translucent to opaque quartz crystal that ranges in color from pale gray-brown to deep, nearly black hues. Its signature smoky color is caused by natural underground radiation activating aluminum impurities within the crystal. It is a popular, durable gemstone (rating 7 on the Mohs hardness scale) prized by collectors and jewelry makers alike.
Key Characteristics & History
  • The "Smoke" Effect: The iconic smoky color is produced when gamma radiation interacts with silicon dioxide and aluminum deposits. The stone can fade if exposed to high heat or direct sunlight over time.
  • Varieties: Morion is a highly prized, opaque dark brown to black variety, while Cairngorm is a yellow-brown variation native to the Scottish mountains.
  • Historical Use: In 12th-century China, flat plates of smoky quartz were carved and used as primitive sunglasses to shield eyes from glare. It is also famously the national gemstone of Scotland.
Metaphysical & Holistic Beliefs
  • Grounding & Protection: In crystal healing and esoteric practices, smoky quartz is widely considered one of the premier grounding stones. Practitioners use it to dispel negative energy, relieve stress, and provide emotional calmness during overwhelming situations.
  • Root Chakra: It is heavily associated with the root chakra, helping individuals feel more connected to the earth and present in their physical surroundings
